Koa Wood Wood Bowls

What should you know about our Koa Bowls?...

These are custom made on the Big Island of Hawai`i. Unlike other wood products found in Hawaiian stores, our bowls are not imported and are Made In Hawai`i. They are not mass produced. We use the best wood available and apply traditional finishing practices to ensure quality and authenticity. Above all, our bowls can be used as show pieces, collector's items, or as functional servers. There is no toxic finish (we use mineral oil as a finish) and are safe for food handling. For quality control purposes only a few bowls are produced at a time; therefore, turn around times may vary. We will confirm availability of bowl and size when you place your order.

Koa Wood Care

How should I care for my wood bowls?

Food handling - Our bowls are finished with mineral oil before shipping. When used with food, bowls may be hand washed with mild soap and water. Dry immediately. Do not let liquid sit in the bowl or leave it soaking in a sink. By applying a thin coat of mineral oil periodically you can extend the life of the wood grain. Never use metal or materials that may scratch the wood surface. Nylon, plastic or other wooden utensils are recommended instead.

As an art form - When appreciated as functional art object, use only mineral oil by applying it lightly and letting it sit a few minutes. Wipe off excess. We do not recommend other oils such as vegetable/olive oils as it may cause stickiness or become rancid. If you choose to apply furniture polish, we recommend a light coat of fine furniture paste wax using a soft cloth. Let dry and buff with a clean, soft cloth. Avoid overspraying and other harsh chemical products (e.g. glass cleaner) as it may damage the wood surface permanently.
