Our ohana (staff) consists of Big Islanders and those who are Hawaiian-at-heart. We are owned and operated by Hale Akamai Smartdotcom of Hawai`i, with an affiliation with the Big Island Community Benefit Web Site, IAKAMAI.COM. Our Hale Akamai Island Products at CaptainPicard.com web site is primarily devoted to promoting Hawaiian products with exception of Touch Of An Angel products that are imported from California. We provide genuine products made, developed, or inspired by the People of Hawai`i. Many of our items are handcrafted and produced by small independent crafts persons, artists, woodturners, and seniors, who devote many hours of labor and love to their finished product. This not only insures authenticity and quality work but also enables us to promote the Hawaiian culture through its arts and crafts forms. Our products are sold throughout North America and we can assure you that a lot of love, dedication and pride have been put forth in producing them..
Each year we close down for few couple of weeks so our staff can spend quality time with family and friends here and abroad. During this time we also are always on a search for new, affordable, Hawaiian products that seldom make it to the Mainland market.

We are selective in the products we represent or make available on our web sites. If you would like us to consider your products, please feel free to email us. We are primarily interested in products made on the Big Island of Hawai`i by independent local arts and crafts folks, Hawaiian small or family-owned businesses, or individuals whose products are considered "Hawaiian" or "Hawaii-related."
Our Early Beginnings
In 1997 Hale Akamai Consulting of San Francisco (HAC/SF) was established by a former Big Islander and opened its doors in San Francisco to help support the growing Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities in California, Nevada, and Pacific Northwest. In 1998, this led to the formation of two Northern California Hawaiian internet entities, Hale Akamai Consulting of San Francisco and its small business web site design services, Smartdotcom.com. From there, HAC/Smartdotcom began the development of the Big Island public benefit web site, IAKAMAI.COM, devoted to promoting Hawai`i Island Performing and Creative Arts, Pacific Islander Community cultural activities, and Hawai`i small business commerce.
In 2003 HAC/Smartdotcom launched Hale Akamai Island Products at CaptainPicard.com, a web site promoting affordable Hawaiian products to Mainland visitors and Pacific Islanders living abroad. By applying our Web Site Design expertise and Hawaiian Retail know-how we have been able to bring unique local Hawaiian products on to the World Wide Web at very affordable prices.
In the Spring of 2007 we decided to be closer to our Hawaiian sources and aloha roots so we relocated our Mainland offices to the Big Island of Hawai`i. As a result, we now operate our retail business (Hale Akamai at CAPTAINPICARD.COM), web design and consulting business (SMARTDOTCOM.COM of Hawai`i), and our Big Island Community public benefit web site (IAKAMAI.COM) from the sunny shores of Kailua-Kona, on the Big Island of Hawai`i.
