Each piece is custom made and priced based on grain, size, and wood pattern. We use mineral oil so there is no toxic finish. All have a natural finish and can be used as show pieces, collector's items, functional servers, or just to toss your keys or jewelry into! Food handling safe. Wood imperfections that occur in nature (e.g. water marks, "faux fractures," etc.) are sometimes visible on the inside or outside of the bowl and in no way lessens the value or functionality of the product. Such imperfections are generally found on bowls with unique grain patterns that the wood turner feels are worth preserving.
CURLY KOA (when available) is highly prized for its rare phenomenal curly grain patterns and cost considerably more than "natural" koa. Although curly koa can be used to serve food, we recommend that curly koa be used as a display or art piece because of its unique beauty and value.
Hawaiian Koa... (Acacia koa) is a Hawaiian native forest tree unique to Hawaii. It is a valued hardwood that has become "rare" due to its popularity. Our bowls are made from trees already felled. To protect our ecology we do not harvest live trees for our bowls.
Back orders... All back orders are custom made. Because we produce high quality koa bowls (not cheesy mass-produced ones), back ordered sizes generally take approximately 6 - 8 weeks to produce. We will always provide you with the apporximate shipping date of back ordered items.
All bowls are certified as MADE IN HAWAI1I and marked for authenticity on the bottom of the bowl. They are not imported.
